HRNX 2-Part Folding Yard Ramp: 10 Tons, Half the Length

A 10-tonne mobile yard ramp is 10,300 mm (33 ft 9 in) long, and it stays that length when nobody is using it. In a yard with two doors and one shared apron, that footprint decides whether the ramp sleeps indoors or rusts by the fence. The HRNX answers that problem with a single hinge: two deck sections, one fold, half the length.

One Hinge, Two Sections, Half the Footprint

The HRNX is built as a lower run and an upper run joined by one heavy-duty central hinge. Opened out, it is a full working ramp: 10,300 mm long, 2,200 mm wide (7 ft 3 in), 200 mm guard rails (7.9 in), rated 10 t (22,046 lb), with a mechanical lift that raises the head end to trailer bed height. Folded, the package is roughly 5,150 mm (16 ft 11 in) — short enough to stand against a workshop wall or park in the bay that was holding pallets.

Here is the honest trade-off. A three-section ramp packs smaller: our HRFJ folds to about a third of its length, near 3,430 mm (11 ft 3 in). The two-section HRNX gives that up and takes back speed — one person, one hinge, one motion, working inside a minute, with no second fold to forget or pack with grit. What the fold does not change is width: the deck is 2,200 mm across open or closed, so a 2,000 mm doorway is not a route.

Yard Math Worth Doing Before You Order

Folded length is the number to design around, and three checks catch most bad decisions.

  • Clear bay length. A 5,150 mm package needs 5.5 m of floor plus 800 mm to swing it up. Two ramps side by side need 4.5 m of width.
  • Route from storage to dock. Count the tightest corner on that route, not the straight run.
  • Standing surface. A ramp living outdoors on bare ground sinks at the head end after rain. A concrete pad under the wheels costs nothing at build stage and saves a re-level every spring.

Manual Crank: Right for Some Yards, Wrong for Others

The HRNX lifts mechanically — a crank at the head end driving the support legs. No hydraulic oil, no battery, no charger, nothing to leak when the temperature drops below freezing. For a site that changes ramp height twice a day, it is the most dependable mechanism you can buy and the cheapest to keep running for ten years.

It stops being the right answer when the ramp is re-set for every trailer. Crank effort is real effort, and tired operators stop adjusting; they run the ramp at whatever height it already sits at, the forklift bumps the lip, and the deck takes a beating it was never rated for. If a bay handles more than a dozen trailers a day with mixed bed heights — flatbeds at 1,300 mm next to high-cube vans at 1,100 mm — pay for the hydraulic HRYN instead.

Deck Surface: Grating or Diamond Mesh

Both fit the same frame; the choice is about what rolls up the ramp.

Open steel grating lets rain, snow and grit fall through. The tyre edge finds the bar, water does not stand, and a frozen deck clears itself once traffic starts. It is the default for outdoor yards in cold or wet climates.

Diamond mesh is solid plate with a raised pattern: smoother under pallet truck casters and hand carts, sweeps clean, and does not catch a small wheel in an opening. The cost is drainage — water sits in the low spots, and after snow you brush rather than wait. Our rule: forklift-only traffic outdoors, take grating; any pallet truck or cart traffic, take diamond mesh and budget for a stiff brush.

What We Need to Quote One Accurately

  • Trailer bed heights you actually load — lowest and highest, not the average.
  • Heaviest forklift plus load per trip, and whether it is diesel, LPG or electric with a battery counterweight.
  • Ground surface at the dock and along the storage route, plus door and aisle widths.
  • Deck preference: grating or diamond mesh.
  • Destination port, because that sets packing and freight more than the ramp does.

Questions We Get on This Model

Can one person set up the HRNX?

Yes. Unfolding is a single hinge motion and the crank is geared for one operator. Expect a few minutes at the handle to reach trailer height, less if you leave it near working height between trailers.

Does the centre hinge need maintenance?

A grease point and a visual check for grit or bent hinge plates. Fold it fully once a week; a hinge that is never opened hides cracked welds until something fails under load.

Will it take a 3-tonne forklift with a 2-tonne load?

That is 5 t of moving mass on a 10 t ramp — inside the rating but close enough that tyre pressure and load position matter. Keep the load low, drive straight, never turn on the deck. Above 6 t combined, specify a 15 t frame.

How does it ship?

Folded, on a skid, into a 20 ft container as one unit; two fit a 40 ft high-cube. Lead time is typically 20–30 days from confirmed drawing, plus sea freight.

Weighing the HRNX against the three-section HRFJ or the hydraulic HRYN? Send the trailer heights and the storage footprint you have, and we will tell you which one fits — including when the answer is that you do not need a folding ramp. Start with the folding loading ramps category, compare the HRNX product page with the hydraulic HRYN and the three-section HRFJ, then send your site details for a drawing and an EXW price.
