Most folding ramps ask the operator to crank. The HRYN asks him to pump. A hydraulic cylinder does the lifting instead of a hand winch, and that one change affects who can deploy it, how fast a bay turns around, and what maintenance you owe it afterwards.
What the HRYN Is, Precisely
The HRYN is a two-section mobile yard ramp rated 10 tonnes dynamic. The deck is split once, at a single heavy hinge, so the unit folds to roughly half its working length — about 5,700 mm (18 ft 8 in) — for storage and transport. Height adjustment is by hydraulic cylinder fed from a manual pump as standard; a 220 V or 380 V electric pump is available as an option, which matters if the ramp is used more than a handful of times a shift.
The deck is available in two forms: steel grating for outdoor yards where rain and grit are constant, or diamond safety mesh for indoor work where you want debris to fall through rather than sit on the running surface. Both are welded into a frame that carries the 10-tonne dynamic rating; the static rating is higher, but the dynamic number is the one that matters for a forklift.
One clarification, because it appears on several supplier pages including ours: a 2,200 mm (7 ft 3 in) wide ramp does not pass through a pedestrian doorway. It passes a 2.5 m yard gate or roller shutter. If the only route from storage to bay is a 1.2 m door, no amount of folding fixes that.
The Numbers That Decide the Fit
Published figures for the HRYN, converted so you can check them against a tape measure on site:
| Item | Metric | Imperial | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rated load (dynamic) | 10,000 kg | 22,046 lb | Forklift plus load, in motion |
| Overall length, working | 11,400 mm | 37 ft 5 in | Sets the approach slope |
| Overall length, folded | ≈5,700 mm | ≈18 ft 8 in | Half the yard footprint when parked |
| Overall width | 2,200 mm | 7 ft 3 in | Gate and door clearance check |
| Guard rail height | 200 mm | 7.9 in | Kerbs the wheels, not a fall barrier |
| Lifting system | Hydraulic cylinder, manual pump standard; electric optional | No winch, no crank handle | |
| Deck options | Steel grating or diamond safety mesh | Outdoor vs indoor running surface | |
Slope: What 11.4 Metres Actually Buys You
Grade is the number buyers skip and later regret. Take the ramp length, subtract any level-off platform at the top, and divide the rise by what is left. On an 11,400 mm ramp with a 1,000 mm level-off, a 1,350 mm (4 ft 5 in) container floor on a chassis lands at about 13.0%, or 7.4°.
| Bed height to clear | Full length (11,400 mm) | With 1,000 mm level-off |
|---|---|---|
| 1,150 mm / 3 ft 9 in (low trailer) | 10.1% / 5.8° | 11.1% / 6.3° |
| 1,350 mm / 4 ft 5 in (container on chassis) | 11.8% / 6.8° | 13.0% / 7.4° |
| 1,420 mm / 4 ft 8 in (high-cube trailer) | 12.5% / 7.1° | 13.7% / 7.8° |
Every one of those figures sits above 10%, which brings in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178(n)(7)(i): on a grade steeper than 10%, a loaded forklift travels with the load uphill — up the ramp forward, down the ramp in reverse. That is a training and signage issue, not a ramp defect, but it is the reason a 7.5% yard is easier to run than a 13% one. If your fleet includes three-wheel electric trucks, check the manufacturer’s gradeability at the load you actually carry before you accept 13%.
Where the Hydraulic Fold Earns Its Price
Two things happen when the pump replaces the crank. Deployment drops to well under a minute, with no winding and no watching a cable. And the task stops being a two-person job: one operator can position, unfold and set height alone, which is the difference between a ramp that gets used and one that gets avoided on a busy afternoon.
That matters most in compact, high-frequency sites — urban depots, multi-tenant warehouses, rental yards where equipment moves between customers. The folded 5,700 mm package also buys container space: an 11.4 m one-piece ramp consumes the length of a 40 ft high-cube, while a folded unit leaves roughly 6 m of the box for accessories and spares.
The trade-off is a hydraulic circuit you now own: seals, hoses, a pump, a cylinder rod that must stay clean. That is one more maintenance line than a mechanical two-part ramp. If nobody on site will check oil level once a quarter, the mechanical unit is the more honest purchase — we publish both and say so.
Four Things to Check Before You Order
1. Tonnage against real loads. Ten tonnes dynamic is not a 10-tonne forklift plus 10 tonnes of cargo. Add truck weight to the heaviest load, apply a margin, and compare — our ramp length method applies here unchanged.
2. Power at the ramp. The manual pump needs no supply. The electric option needs 220 V or 380 V where the ramp will sit, and that is often the constraint nobody checks until commissioning day.
3. Deck choice against weather. Grating drains and grips in rain; diamond mesh is easier on pallets and small wheels but holds debris. Outdoors in a wet climate, grating is the default for a reason.
4. The fold hinge. One hinge carries the whole deck, so inspect it monthly: pin wear, weld toes, grease. A two-part ramp with a neglected hinge becomes a one-part ramp at the worst moment.
Questions Buyers Ask
Can one person really set up a 10-ton folding ramp?
Yes, with the hydraulic pump: position it, unfold the second section, pump to height. The 10-tonne rating describes what it carries, not what it weighs, and the folded unit stays on its wheels.
Is the HRYN better than the mechanical HRNX?
It costs more and needs hydraulic maintenance. Choose it when one-person setup matters; choose the mechanical two-part HRNX when the ramp is set once a day.
What gradient will I actually get?
Between 10% and 14% for beds of 1,150–1,420 mm, depending on whether you specify a level-off platform. Give us the bed height and we will return the exact slope and lip ride-over height.
How does it ship?
Folded, on a steel skid, in a 40 ft high-cube. Production is 25–35 days EXW Foshan for a standard build. Indicative EXW pricing for this class is USD 13,000–17,000 — a guide, not a quotation.
Get the Drawing Before You Commit
Send your trailer bed heights, gate width and forklift model. We will return a dimensioned drawing of the HRYN at your grade, with lip detail and wheel layout, plus a price for grating versus mesh. Start on the HRYN product page, compare the folding ramp range, or contact the factory — drawings usually come back within one working day.
